Thousands of entries were received in the ‘Up2You’ competition calling on entries for the new youth and teen programs being rolled out across Norwegian’s fleet.
‘Splash Academy’ was selected for the enhanced youth program with ‘Entourage’ the new name for the ‘Teen’ program. The four age groups within the youth program will be dubbed ‘Guppies’ for ages up to
two, ‘Turtles’ for ages three to five, ‘Seals’ for ages six to nine and ‘Dolphins’ for ages 10 to 12.
Winners, Misty Horning from Kentucky who first submitted ‘Splash Academy’ and Lili Kabelitz from New York who first submitted ‘Entourage’, will sail on a seven-day Caribbean cruise with their families while those who submitted the winning names for the age groups
will receive a USD$100 American Express gift card.
“We introduced our new youth and teen programs on Norwegian Gem to rave reviews from parents and kids alike,” Norwegian Cruise Line CEO Kevin Sheehan said.
“The winning names capture the spirit and fun-filled nature of the new exciting programs that are designed to be educational and interactive.”
With different themes daily, Norwegian will be placing a specific emphasis on sports through a partnership with The King’s Foundation and Camps, a U.K. based organisation.
Soccer skills, physical challenges and ice breaker action games along with bowling tournaments and dodge ball under the stars will be offered with a focus on teambuilding and boosting self confidence.
The whole family will be given the opportunity to get involved in the new programs with activities including tug-of-war, King’s Camps’ family challenges, dodge ball, cupcake decorating, pizza making, family charades and a family version of the line’s popular ‘White Hot Party’.
Partnering with Hilario Productions Cirque du Jour, featuring a team of performers from the Ringing Brothers’ Circuses, families and young cruisers will have the chance to learn a variety of skills including balancing feathers, juggling plates and stilt walking.
Theatre and the arts will also be featured in the new program with puppet shows, mini improvisational acting classes and the themed activities including ‘Superspy Mission Impossible’ and ‘Desert Island Adventures’.
‘Splash Academy’ will offer children under the age of three and their parents sensory play classes including baby art, parent and baby ‘Rhyme Time’ and a parent and baby mini workout with ‘Motion in the Ocean’.
Currently available aboard Norwegian Gem, the revamped programs will be rolled out across the fleet in the coming months.
