The one where Orion II cancelled sailings…

Due to several defects affecting the passenger experience onboard Orion II, the 10 October and 17 October voyages have been cancelled.

Whilst there will be technicians onboard working on mechanical requirements (including the air-conditioning), there is no requirement for a dry dock following the mud bank grounding in Sandakan.

The hull has been inspected and no damage reported.

“While cancelling a cruise is always the last resort we do believe that these works are necessary to be able to provide our passengers with the level of product that they have come to expect from Orion Expedition Cruises,” said a spokesperson from Orion in a statement to e-Travel Blackboard.

Passengers affected by the cancellations have been offered the opportunity to transfer to one of the following seven-night voyages:

15 December 2011 – Thailand, Temples and the Mekong
22 December 2011 – Gulf of Siam Explorer
27 February 2012 – Gulf of Siam Explorer
5 March 2012 – Thailand of Siam Explorer

Any substantiated non-refundable travel expenses not covered by travel insurance will be reimbursed by the line with substantial discounts on a future cruise also offered to those affected.
