The one where Avalon Tranquility was evacuated…

164 passengers onboard Avalon Tranquility were evacuated from the river ship following an accident involving a cargo barge on the Danube near Passau last Friday 2 September.

A spokesperson from Avalon Waterways told e-Travel Blackboard that the barge came loose from its moorings, striking the Tranquility and damaging its engine portion which is separate to the passenger area. No passengers or crew were reported as injured.

Uniworld’s River Empress assisted in transferring passengers and crew to the nearby town of Regensburg where Avalon arranged accommodation and the Danube was temporarily closed to shipping traffic whilst emergency repairs were undertaken on the vessel.

With most passengers opting to continue the ‘Magnificent Europe’ itinerary by coach following the incident, Avalon assisted some passengers with flights home from Munich as an alternative.

“All passengers on the cruise have been offered a refund on the remaining part of their itinerary as well as a credit towards a future cruise booking,” an Avalon Waterways spokesperson told e-Travel Blackboard.
