The one where Travel + Leisure honoured the ‘World’s Best’…

Crystal Serenity

Travel + Leisure magazine has released the results of the ‘2011 World’s Best Awards’ as voted by their readers, with Crystal Cruises, Yachts of Seabourn and Tauck taking away the top spots in their three cruising categories.

Awarded via a points system, the survey was conducted in partnership with ROI Research Inc.

In the ‘Large-Ship’ category, the top ten lines remained very similar to the results presented in 2010 with the only change being Cunard going up a place to number five, swapping with Azamara.

There was no movement in the ‘Small-Ship Cruise Lines’ category with the Yachts of Seabourn dominating, however ‘River Cruises’ changed dramatically with Ama Waterways debuting in the top five and Tauck moving from position three to position one.

A complete breakdown is provided below:

5              2              Avalon Waterways                                                          84.27

I have to say I was disappointed that there wasn’t a separate category for ‘luxury’ as I don’t believe it’s fair to combine all ‘Large-Ship Cruise Lines’ into one.

Where Crystal, Regent and Oceania are spectacular lines, they offer something completely different to Royal Caribbean and Disney, which are more affordable all ’round options for cruisers.
