Carnival Cruise Lines has taken a leap of faith given the success of Carnival Spirit’s inaugural season Down Under with today’s announcement to deploy Carnival Legend to Sydney from 24 September 2014.
Carnival Spirit’s sister ship will go into dry dock earlier in 2014, where she will undergo a semi-Aussification and upgrade to tailor her for the deployment, which will see her sailing out of Sydney on eight- to 12-day voyages to the South Pacific.
“We are all really excited about Carnival Legend joining her sister ship Carnival Spirit in Australia,” Carnival Cruise Lines Australia and New Zealand director Jennifer Vandekreeke said.
“There is a great fit between the Australian personality and Carnival Cruise Lines, both being playful, outgoing and fun-loving.”
To date, more than 100,000 cruisers have embarked on a voyage aboard Carnival Spirit and Ms Vandekreeke said that the knowledge they have gained about this market will be used when Carnival Legend arrives here next year.
“As sister to Carnival Spirit, Carnival Legend will offer the same wide spaces, an abundance of stateroom options such as balconies and interconnecting rooms and an unparalleled variety of activities,” Ms Vandekreeke said.
The 2,680-passenger vessel will set sail on her inaugural cruise out of Sydney on 24 September 2014 before spending the winter months in the Northern Hemisphere and returning to Australia in Spring 2015.
Bookings will open in June 2013 and additional details about her enhancements will be unveiled over the coming months.
