The one where Holland America pulled out of Bermuda…

Holland America Line has announced that ms Veendam will not be calling into Bermuda for the 2013 summer season.

The news comes just weeks after Carnival Cruise Lines made the decision to send Carnival Pride to the Eastern Caribbean instead of Bermuda for the summer of 2012.

“The 2012 season will mark four years of Bermuda cruising roundtrip from New York and in 2013 other destinations are being considered as part of our overall global deployment,” Holland America Line manager, international public relations Jerrol Golden said in a statement to e-Travel Blackboard.

“We sincerely appreciate and value the partnership of the Bermuda government, tour operators, vendors, local businesses and the people of Bermuda for welcoming our guests and sharing their beautiful country.”

Ms Golden confirmed that calls to Hamilton will continue occasionally on other itineraries.

Bermuda’s Department of Tourism reported that more than 350,000 cruisers visited the region in 2010 with numbers expected to remain steady in 2012.

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises will conduct regular sailings in Bermuda for their summer 2012 seasons and Norwegian Breakaway will feature a series of Bermuda cruises as part of her maiden itineraries in 2013.
