The one where Athena celebrated a season of firsts…

Classic International Cruises’ 550-passenger Athena will stake its claim as the first ship to visit the Victorian city of Portland as part of her 2012/13 Australian summer cruise program.

Arriving in Portland on 5 February 2013, passengers will have the chance to experience the historic fishing village of Port Fairy and the Twelve Apostles located on the Great Ocean Road.

Part of a five-night round-trip voyage from Adelaide, the inaugural visit forms part of an itinerary that also includes a visit to Robe, South Australia, only visited once before by a cruise ship.

The newly released 2012/13 Australian summer brochure features 17 voyages ranging from two to 40 nights departing from Fremantle and Adelaide.

Athena’s 2012/13 from our Australia underscores our ongoing commitment to the growing Australian cruise market, particularly in Western Australia and South Australia,” Classic International Cruises managing director for Australia, Grant Hunter said.

The brochure also features CIC’s first Easter cruise from Australia departing from Fremantle for five-nights and visiting Esperance and Albany along with a four-night rock and roll themed cruise in April 2013, sailing to Albany and Bunbury.

The maiden calls continue with Athena visiting Kagoshima, Keelung, Busan and Manila for the first time as part of her 38-night Far East voyage on 18 February 2013 and Dubai, Livorno, Kotor, Durres and Muscat as part of two voyages between Athena’s home-port in Europe and Australia.
