P&O Cruises will welcome their three millionth passenger in late September and are celebrating the achievement by launching an unprecedented AU$3 million cash back campaign.

Passengers who book cruises between 17 September and 12 November 2011 will receive up to AU$200 cash back per cabin.

Applicable for departures from Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Auckland and Fremantle, the cash back amount will be determined based on the voyage length.

“It’s a great achievement and we wanted to celebrate it with our passengers by giving them some extra holiday spending money,” said Anne Sherry, CEO Carnival Australia.

Calculating the number of passengers travelled from the resumption of cruising post World War 2, the line highlighted that 30 per cent of the three million passengers had travelled in the past four years.

Ms Sherry noted that almost half of the passengers had travelled since 2000, further showcasing the cruise industry boom of the 21st century.

Pacific Sun takes the cake with the most passengers of any ship in the current fleet, carrying over 500,000 passengers since her launch in 2004. The beloved Fairstar is the only ship to surpass this figure having carried 700,000 passengers over her 23-year commission.
