Princess Cruises has announced that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge will name their newest vessel, the Royal Princess at her christening on 13 June in Southampton.

A slightly different christening to the one she can expect when her first child is born, Royal Princess will still be surrounded by pomp and circumstance with traditions including the blessing, a performance by the Royal Marines Band and the pipers of the Irish Guards.

“It is a great honour for Princess Cruises that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has accepted our invitation to become the Godmother to Royal Princess,” Princess Cruises president and CEO Alan Buckelew said.

“We are delighted that the Duchess will launch our new ship and can think of no better way to celebrate our company’s British heritage and our commitment to the country.”

A series of celebrations will take place upon Royal Princess’ arrival at the Ocean Terminal in Southampton  on 7 June, including special events for customers and travel agents culminating in the gala event on 12 June.

She will depart on her official maiden voyage on 16 June before she sets sail on a series of Mediterranean cruises for the northern hemisphere summer.

A transatlantic voyage will lead into her Eastern Caribbean cruises in the northern hemisphere autumn.
